U.N. 'Climate Change' Plan Would Likely Shift Trillions to Form New World Economy

A United Nations document on "climate change" that will be distributed to a major environmental conclave next week envisions a huge reordering of the world economy, likely involving trillions of dollars in wealth transfer, millions of job losses and gains, new taxes, industrial relocations, new tariffs and subsidies, and complicated payments for greenhouse gas abatement schemes and carbon taxes — all under the supervision of the world body.
Those and other results are blandly discussed in a discretely worded United Nations "information note" on potential consequences of the measures that industrialized countries will likely have to take to implement the Copenhagen Accord, the successor to the Kyoto Treaty, after it is negotiated and signed by December 2009. The Obama administration has said it supports the treaty process if, in the words of a U.S. State Department spokesman, it can come up with an "effective framework" for dealing with global warming.
The 16-page note, obtained by FOX News, will be distributed to participants at a mammoth negotiating session that starts on March 29 in Bonn, Germany, the first of three sessions intended to hammer out the actual commitments involved in the new deal.

Niall Ferguson makes an important observation that the Anglophone right, as he calls it, has been oblivious to the impossibility of pursuing three distinct goals. As Ferguson writes:
Suppose that a government can have any two of the following things, but not all three: globalisation, in the sense of openness to international flows of goods, services, capital and labour; social stability; and a small state. Or, to put it differently, conservatives can pick any two from an open economy, a stable society and political power – but not all three.
This seems true to me, which is why it puzzles me that pretty much everyone on the Anglophone right (with a few exceptions) has concluded that the things that need to be dropped are either “social stability” or “the small state” or both. If there is one fundamental area of agreement among almost all Republicans and Tories, it is that policies that support globalization must not be touched. There are quite a few people who agree that the right has to adapt to new circumstances, but very few of them are interested in altering support for policies that facilitate globalization. Bizarrely, just as the worsening of the Iraq war made the war the one unquestionable policy on the American right, the global recession has made globalization even more sacrosanct than it was. As with Iraq, the Anglophone and particularly the American right seems to enjoy embracing even more tightly something that the rest of the world and most Americans are souring on.

The non-adherence to instructions by the medical team when administering the Rubella vaccine at the Matara St. Thomas’ Girls High School on Thursday was what caused the death of one student and the hospitalisation of 27 others, a health department inquiry has revealed.
The preliminary investigation conducted by Health Services Deputy Director General Dr. P.G. Mahipala had found the vaccine was administered by an assistant medical practitioner who was not authorized to do so.
The Emergency Medical Trolley required to deal with any medical emergency was not available when the immunization programme was underway.
Ministry spokesman W.M.D. Wanninayaka said a two-member WHO team comprising immunization and vaccination specialists Dr. Madhav Ram and Dr. Stephen Guichard arrived on Sunday and met Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva yesterday prior to their clinical investigation into the incident.

1) Watch for bubble indicators. It is simple: look for people doing irrational things. For instance, running up the price of companies that have no earnings just because “everyone else is doing it”. People buying houses with no money down, readjusting interest rate loans, and waiving home inspections. Putting money into hedge funds that guarantee sky-high returns (okay, us “commoners” probably didn’t know about that one, but some people did!)
2) When bubbles start to form- watch out! Run for the hills. If I can, short anything related to the industry benefitting from the irrationality. If I can’t short, then shift money into gold or cash. Maybe start out slowly- it might take a year or two before the market catches on. But once I notice bubble-like qualities, start getting out. Every month take out 1/12th or so of my money from the market and get it into something safe. And definitely stop putting new money in.
3) After the bubble bursts, start to slowly get back in. Figure a year and a half at least for things to stabilize. Maybe start getting back in after the bad news starts to not affect anyone, as they are used to it and partially numb. Maybe plan to get all my money back in over a year’s time.
4) If I'm not working or am close to retirement, start shifting money into bonds- very safe bonds. Don’t worry about the bonds losing value- just plan to live off the income they generate. I might also think of shifting some of the money into gold and/or cash- but not unless I can stand to lose most of it.
So, I figure next year during the Summertime we will be back in full swing. The market may or may not adjust to that reality months before then or months afterwards. In five years we will talk about the terrible time in 2008 like it was ancient history.

After multiple thousands of phone calls, emails, faxes, and other communications from outraged citizens, the State of Missouri has rescinded its controversial "militia" report. This proves the point I made in this column recently that the most effective way to fight an ever-encroaching federal leviathan is to focus on our individual states.
Let me review the events of the last few weeks so as to help readers familiarize themselves with this historic--and I do mean historic--episode.
On February 20, 2009, the State of Missouri, via its Department of Public Safety, issued what was called "MIAC Strategic Report: The Modern Militia Movement." In this report, people who supported Presidential candidates Ron Paul, Bob Barr, and yours truly were referenced as being connected to potentially dangerous "militia members." But the inference did not stop there. People of conservative ideology were also identified in the State Police report as being potentially dangerous. People who held political opinions opposing abortion, illegal immigration, the New World Order, the North American Union, the Income Tax, the U.N., etc., were profiled in the MIAC report.
