Marijuana helps in battle against cancer: study

The main chemical in marijuana appears to aid in the destruction of brain cancer cells, offering hope for future anti-cancer therapies, researchers in Spain wrote in a study released Thursday.

The authors from the Complutense University in Madrid, working with scientists from other universities, found that the active component of marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), causes cancer cells to undergo a process called autophagy -- the breakdown that occurs when the cell essentially self-digests.

Gordon Brown declared that a $1 trillion package to stimulate economic growth agreed at yesterday's G20 summit in London will ensure that the world pulls out of recession more quickly.

Speaking after the one-day summit of the world's richest nations in the Docklands, the Prime Minister said there were "no quick fixes", adding: "Today's decisions will not immediately solve the crisis. But we have begun the process by which it will be solved."

He said: "This is the day that the world came together to fight back against the global recession, not with words, but with a plan for global recovery and for reform and with a clear timetable for its delivery."

World Bank President and Bilderberg elitist Robert Zoellick openly admitted the plan to eliminate national sovereignty and impose a global government during a speech on the eve of the G20 summit.

Speaking about the agenda to increase not just funding but power for international organizations on the back of the financial crisis, Zoellick stated, “If leaders are serious about creating new global responsibilities or governance, let them start by modernising multilateralism to empower the WTO, the IMF, and the World Bank Group to monitor national policies.”

In other words, give global institutions the power to regulate national policy as part of the creation of global government.

What Zoellick is outlining is essentially the end of national sovereignty and the reclassification of national governments as mere subordinates to a global authority that is completely unaccountable to the voting public of any country.

Nobody is questioning that police have a tough job. Everybody knows what they do is extremely dangerous, and we all should be aware that a YouTube presentation of alleged police brutality won't tell all sides. Still, it's appalling when you hear about a South Florida rookie police officer being accused of slamming a 10-year-old boy against his cruiser because the boy skateboarded into the street near his house.

Officer Davie Rodriguez received a two-day suspension and was ordered to attend anger management classes, which seems like a lenient punishment. Investigators said he was guilty of "improper use of force."

Back in mid-September, when the financial crisis struck, the solution was going to be simple. Yes, it would also be expensive. And painful. Like a heckuva hangover after a wild binge. But time would cure it, the way the liver slowly cleans the bloodstream of toxins. Toxic assets might be cleared out the same way.

Yes, there would be some discomfort, as the doctors say when they mean this is going to hurt like hell. And there would need to be some re-organization and re-regulation, which is a discreet term for letting a lot of hot-shot bankers, hedge-fund operators, incompetent executives, and assorted others who thought they could beat the system find more constructive things to do in life.

There is a secession movement afoot and its proponents are determined to put a halt to the federal government’s ambitions to destroy and reconstruct an entire economy and dissolve the last remnants of individual liberty. Twenty-eight states are invoking the law of the land, the U.S. Constitution, by rolling out legislation to assert their sovereignty as free states in order to keep from being undermined by the never-ending swarm of unrestrained federal decrees.

The speed with which the federal government intends to take over private institutions and usurp states’ rights and individual autonomy is unprecedented. When the Bush-Obama regime maneuvers are compared to the Hoover-FDR New Deal era, it looks like today’s hare vs. yesterday’s turtle. The state’s various propaganda arms, from big media to institutionalized special interest forces, are being empowered to publicize and sell the agenda of the totalitarian state by painting it in glossy colors that warm the hearts of unresisting Americans. There are, however, growing pockets of dissenters who conclude that life, liberty, property, and the futures of their children are more important than the trivial things that occupy the minds of the submissive class. For that reason, the state’s militarized police force, which has been given unparalleled powers by the contrived crises following 9-11, has snowballed in size and is being fortified in expectation of confronting rebellion from those citizens who intend to resist the tyranny of an over-reaching Leviathan.

The Goldsmiths, Part LV, addressed the Chinese ideas on using the Special Drawing Rights as a new global reserve currency to take the place of the dollar. If you remember this thing, as it broke, President Obama came out with a strong no that he didn’t like the idea. The US Secretary of the Treasury echoed his boss. Then, almost immediately thereafter, Geithner did a complete, 180-degree, about face, and contradicted his boss by saying that the plan might have merit (obviously, Geithner received higher level instructions from someone else besides Obama).



That Goldsmiths article gave a brief backdrop on the Special Drawing Rights (SDR) and outlined that the fall out of such an effort would perhaps cause a sharp drop down on gold. It’s hard to say how far down or how fast down gold could go but we must leave prospects of $500 on the table. As a matter of fact, I earlier have read a prediction by an analyst of $500 gold. This projection was made some time ago and did not factor in the recent Chinese proposal.
